Financial and academic support for outstanding privately-funded international graduate students who can be leaders in the creation of a global research environment

The Graduate School of Humanities offers the OU Humanities Outstanding International Student Award to self-funded international graduate students who have been recognized for their outstanding performance on the graduate school entrance exam. This award aims to enhance research capabilities and further promote the enrollment of international students. A small number of self-funded international graduate students who pass the entrance examination and are recognized for their especially outstanding performance will be admitted as Outstanding International Students and recipients of the OU Humanities Outstanding International Student Award. As such, they will be exempt from tuition fees.
Applicants who are selected as Outstanding International Students will be notified in their acceptance letters.

02 Activities expected of Outstanding International Graduate Students

   

In addition to the usual obligations of regular students, Outstanding International Graduate Students are expected to help lead the creation of a global research environment.

Outstanding International Students are expected to exchange and present their research as part of the Global Humanities Research Exchange Program in the Journal of Interdisciplinary Humanities (regular students will also participate in the research presentation; an Award of Encouragement will be presented to the most outstanding student among the participants).

   

03 Support for Outstanding International Students

   

Tuition exemption All Outstanding International Students will be eligible for the Tuition Fee Exemption System for Outstanding International Students (officially the Tuition Fee Exemption System for International Students of Excellent Academic Standing). Selected students will be exempt from all tuition fees while enrolled in the graduate school (limited to within the standard term of study).

    ・Participating in internships at companies partnering with the graduate school while taking an internship-related course
    ・Mentor System
    ・Applying for the JSPS (Japan Society for the Promotion of Science) DC2 or PD grants
  • Division of Foreign Studies, Division of Japanese Studies, Applied Japanese Studies Course
    ・Participation in events to experience Japanese culture (attending Kabuki plays, etc.)
  • Division of Humanities, Division of Japanese Studies, Foundational Japanese Studies Course, Division of Arts Studies
