Scholarships and Loans

  • ※Not available for international students
     These included Category 1 Loans (interest-free) and Category 2 Loans (interest-bearing). Both types offer scholarship loans to students with outstanding academic performance and excellent character and who are unable to pay for tuition owing to financial reasons.
  • ※Not available for international students
     These provide financial support upon application in cases where the house in which a student or the breadwinner of a student's family lives is partially destroyed (damage equivalent to inundation above floor level) due to a natural disaster, to help students get back to a normal life as soon as possible and continue their studies.

     For these programs, the university recommends candidates with outstanding academic performance and excellent character, who are healthy, and who are unable to pay for tuition owing to financial reasons; successful candidates will be provided with scholarships (grants or loans). Although not many scholarship programs are available for graduate students, candidates will be chosen from among students who have registered during the registration period set once each year. Some scholarships programs accept applications directly rather than selecting from among registered students. Information on applying for such scholarships that require direct application will be provided on the KOAN bulletin board as needed.※The KOAN bulletin board is Osaka University's online bulletin board system that students regularly use to check information.

Exemption from tuition fee(enrollment fee)etc.

  •  Under this program, any regular student enrolled in the graduate program who meets the eligibility conditions established by Osaka University―for instance, the individual paying the student's education fees has died, has suffered from a typhoon, flood, or other kind of natural disaster, or is facing economic difficulties―and is unable to pay his or her tuition fee (enrollment fee) may apply for exemption. Screening will be conducted within budgetary limits, and successful applicants will be granted exemption.
  • Under this program, any regular student enrolled in the graduate program who meets the eligibility conditions established by Osaka University―for instance, the individual paying the student's education fees has died, has suffered from a typhoon, flood, or other kind of natural disaster, or is facing economic difficulties―and is unable to pay his or her tuition fee (enrollment fee) may apply for postponement of payment. Successful applicants will be allowed to postpone payment of their tuition fee (enrollment fee).

Financial support for research(for graduate students)

  •  Awarded to excellent young researchers, these fellowships offer them the opportunity to focus on freely chosen research topics based on their own innovative ideas, ultimately aiming to foster excellent researchers. Doctoral students with outstanding research skills are eligible to apply as well, and successful applicants will be awarded a fellowship.
  •  Osaka University was chosen for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's 2021 University Fellowship Creation Program for Promoting Technological Innovation. The Osaka University Fellowship Program is available for outstanding students admitted to a doctor course (applicable to those admitted in 2025 or before). Eligible students can apply for the program; successful applicants will be awarded a fellowship. Program fellows will receive financial support (equivalent to the amount of their living expenses) that enables them to devote themselves to research, as well as research funding.
  •  This project aims to develop next-generation researchers who can conduct in-depth research independently, help create a better future, and serve as work-ready members of society.
     Those chosen for the project will participate in the project's career development/training program (credit awarding, completion examination) and in activities held by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), respond to various follow-up surveys, and receive a research allowance (equivalent to the amount of their living expenses) and research funding each year.
  •  The CBI Program is a special minor program for students enrolled in five-year doctor courses (courses in which the master course and doctor course are separate or integrated, generally intended for graduates of four-year undergraduate programs) and four-year medicine, dentistry, and pharmaceutical sciences courses (generally intended for graduates of six-year undergraduate programs). The CBI Program offers an array of financial support schemes with the aim of developing advanced human resources that can integrate knowledge with society.
